FAQ

  • I've never worked with a coach before--what can I expect?

My job is to make it easier to integrate running into your life.

First, we’ll have an introductory call to get to know each other and see if my approach is a good fit for your goals. Then, I’ll ask you a lot of questions about your training history, preferences, and goals.

Based on those inputs, I’ll build and share a high-level training scaffold that will preview major training phases and key workouts. Each week, you’ll receive custom workouts on FinalSurge based on this scaffold. I’ll make adjustments based on how you’re responding to workouts and any life events that come up.

Before any goal race, we’ll have a planning call to go over race-day planning and logistics—no detail is too small!

Through it all, you can expect me to be responsive, candid, and flexible. I’ll ask for feedback regularly to make sure I’m doing everything I can to help you be successful.

  • How does virtual coaching work?

I use the FinalSurge training platform to manage my athletes’ custom programs. FinalSurge syncs with GPS watches/apps so I can see data points like pace, heart rate, and more for each run. FinalSure is free for athletes (I pay a monthly subscription fee).

We can figure out a check-in cadence and medium that works for you. I’m available for text, phone, email, and video communication.

In-person workouts and check-ins are available for Washington, DC-based athletes.

  • How is this different than an online training plan?

Static training plans are a great resource, but they leave all the decision-making up to you. If things aren’t working, if you get hurt, or if your schedule changes, the plan remains the same.

By working with a coach who gets to know you as a person and an athlete, you are investing in individualized training and the support of a real person who offers expertise, encouragement, and accountability.

  • How do I know you know what you're doing?

I earned a 99% score on the RRCA Level 1 certification exam in 2021. Since then, I’ve worked with dozens of runners at all levels to achieve PRs in distances from the mile to the marathon. I’ve grown my coaching practice entirely through word-of-mouth referrals.

I can always explain the “why” behind the workout (in plain language!) and prioritize staying up-to-date on training best practices. I steer clear of gimmicks and junk science.

I stay in my lane. I am not a registered dietitian, physical therapist, or physician. While I’ll do my best to answer questions with general knowledge, I’ll always direct you to the appropriate professional who can provide more informed advice.

  • What's your running background?

I’ve enjoyed running my whole life, but preferred spending high school track practice joking around with my teammates than being a competitor.

I love the marathon, but my favorite race distance is the 10 Mile. I am not usually a morning runner, and I’m okay with that.

    PRs:

    1 Mile: 5:13 (2023)

    5K: 18:16 (Unofficial, 2024)

    10 Mile: 1:01:17 (2024)

    Half: 1:23:15 (2023)

    Marathon: 2:58:46 (2021)

  • What's the cost?

I offer 1:1 coaching for $100/month. There is a minimum commitment of 3 months for new athletes.
